ESMO Lifetime Achievement Award

The winner of the ESMO Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented during the 37th ESMO Congress, Vienna, Austria
28 September – 2 October 2012.

The prestigious ESMO Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2006 to annually recognize international research teams/individuals with demonstrated commitment to cancer research treatment.

The 2011 ESMO Lifetime Achievement Award winner Prof. Hans Jörg Senn - Tumor and Breast Center ZeTuP, Switzerland:

"Receiving the prestigious ESMO Lifetime Achievement Award was both an honor and a crowning achievement in my career. It symbolized the recognition by my peers and the oncology community of years of hard work, commitment, and service to our profession. There are many other colleagues out there who deserve similar recognition, and I encourage you to put their names forward as candidates for the 2012 ESMO Awards in Vienna."

Eligibility criteria

  • Demonstrate an affiliation to a major academic or cancer research / treatment institution(s)
  • Possess an international reputation and demonstrated commitment to cancer treatment and research
  • Be renowned for their vital work and outstanding achievements carried out in cancer research and treatment
  • Present a cancer research topic of high current interest
  • Have published results on cancer research topics in significant and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Have not previously received this award

Nomination Process

Nominations may be made by any ESMO Full, Honorary and Emeritus members. Candidates may not nominate themselves.

Selection

Candidates for the award will be considered by the ESMO Fellowship and Award Committee of renowned cancer leaders. After careful deliberations by the committee, its recommendations will be forwarded to the ESMO Executive Board for final consideration and selection.

The choice of the award winner will be made on the basis of the candidate's scientific accomplishments. No regard will be given to race, gender, and nationality, religious or political views.

The award consists of a commemorative plaque, the opportunity to give a 20 minute lecture of the team's/individual’s research findings during the 37th ESMO Congress, Vienna, Austria 28 September – 2 October 2012, free registration, free accommodation and reimbursement of travel expenses to the Vienna Congress.
