Translational Research Unit visitsThe Translational Research Unit (TRU) visits are educational events addressed to young oncologists, providing crucial practical information on how translational research is performed, focusing on:
- How the technology works
- Project history and management, including funding
- Relations with clinicians
- Quality control
Why attend the TRU visits?
- The ESMO TRU visits allow young oncologists to acquire scientific information coming from translational research that will impact oncology treatment in the near future
- The ESMO TRU visits offer young oncologists the tools to learn how data are acquired and how to best use this information in their institutions
- The ESMO TRU visit represent a valuable opportunity to form international contacts for future cooperation
Who can attend the TRU visits?The ESMO Fellowship and Award Committee will select participants and will award grants based on submitted application forms.
- ESMO young oncologists, i.e. ESMO members (or applicants) who are under 40 years of age and have not previously participated in a TRU Visit
- ESMO Junior members have a preferential position when it comes to selection
What is the format of the TRU visit?
- 3-4 days in a European translational research center
- 4-8 fellows per visit
Where and When?
- Organized 2 or 3 times per year
- Renowned European oncology centers rotate presentations on specific topics in translational research
Additional requirements
- Each fellow must make her/his own arrangements
- After the visit, each fellow must submit a short written report discussing the benefits of the visit and how it is planned to utilize the information acquired in the home institute
