Tanja Cufer, MD, PhD, is Professor of Oncology at Medical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia and Senior Cosultant at the University Clinic Golnik, Slovenia. She gained her medical degree and PhD in oncology from the University of Ljubljana. Afterwards she completed her medical oncology training at the Stanford University and at The Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam. In 2004 she spent three months at the Jules Bordet Institute in Brussels as a visiting professor. She has been involved in various scientific societies, advisory boards and cooperative groups. In the period 2006-2009 she served as a member of the EORTC Board; currently she is a chairperson of the EORTC Breast Cancer Group. In 2007, she was appointed as ASCO International Affairs Committee member. From 1998 she has served as a co-chair of the Central Eastern Oncology Congress.
Dr. Cufer is an ESMO Faculty member for Breast Cancer with major scientific interest are breast cancer, lung cancer as well as molecular biology of cancer. She plays an active role in new drug development and she has been principal investigator in more than 20 multi-national clinical trials and actively involved in academic research in oncology. Her professional work has resulted in more than 200 articles, books and book chapters in the field of oncology. She is also a member of several editorial boards and a reviewer for numerous international medical journals.
