Nicholas Pavlidis, MD, PhD, FRCP Edin (Hon), served as Senior Oncologist at the Cancer Institute in Athens before moving to the University of Ioannina where he was elected as Professor of Medical Oncology being the Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at Ioannina University Hospital from 1988 to 2016.

He studied Medicine at the University of Athens. He did his bench research in the field of tumour immunology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, USA (1977-1980). He has his clinical training in Medical Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, UK (1982-1983).

Prof Pavlidis joined the Early Clinical Trials Group of EORTC and served also as the Secretary of the Group (1990-2000). He was member of the ESMO Steering Educational Committee since 1997, former Chairman of ESMO Guidelines Task force (2006-2011) and Chairman of the ESMO/ASCO Global Curriculum Working Group (2012-2014). 

He served and is still serving European School of Oncology since 1989 as Chairman of Balkans and Middle East activities, member of Scientific Committee and as Masterclass Coordinator. He was representing ESO as member of the European Action Rare Cancers (2011-2014) and ACCOE (2016). He was an Editor of Cancer Treatment Reviews up to 2017.

In January 2017, he was elected as Acting Dean of Medical School of University of Cyprus. 

Among his other research activities, Cancer of Unknown Primary and Cancer during Pregnancy were the two topics where he mainly dedicated his scientific interest for many years.

Since September 2016 he is an Emeritus Professor of Ioannina University.
