ESMO Patient Seminars
ESMO Patient Seminars: educational and community-building meetings
These meetings fulfil one of ESMO's mission which is to disseminate knowledge to cancer patients, their family members and caregivers, as well as to patient groups and cancer leagues. The ultimate goal of such meetings is to promote equal access to optimal cancer treatment and care.
The Patient Seminars represent an important occasion for:
- Cancer patients and families to interact and communicate with doctors and other patients
- Oncologists to collect feedback directly from patients
- Representatives of both the scientific and clinical fields, on one hand, and of cancer leagues and patients advocacy groups on the other hand, to discuss, build partnerships and work towards a constantly improved quality of cancer care
The Patient Seminars follow a format which encourages direct interaction and communication between patients, families, oncologists, and healthcare professionals, aiming at having discussions which are clearly understandable to a non-scientific audience. All parties involved have the opportunity toshare their knowledge and personal experiences of living with cancer, anddiscuss the current challengesand future directions of cancer research and methods of treatment.
