History
The London Regional Cancer Program, affiliated with the Victoria Hospital London Health Sciences Centre and the University of Western Ontario, was founded as the Ontario Institute of Radiotherapy in 1941. In 1951, the world’s first treatment with Cobalt-60 was performed here. It is now a regional referral centre serving a population of approximately 1 million, over an area of 22 000 km2.

- 45 dedicated oncology inpatient beds at London Health Sciences Centre
- 14 dedicated palliative care beds and access to 10 palliative care beds at Parkwood Hospital (St. Josephs Healthcare)
- 14 Medical Oncologists, 16 Radiation Oncologists, 4 Palliative Care Physicians, 10 clinical assistants and hospitalists, as well as 113 Primary Care/Chemotherapy Oncology Nurses and Advanced Practice Nurses
- Supportive care department with social work, dietician, community care access, spiritual care and psychiatry liaison services
- Outpatient facilities where approximately 9,000 new patients are seen per year, together with ca. 62,000 outpatient follow-up visits
- Chemotherapy suite with 32 chairs where ca. 80-100 treatments are provided daily
- Radiotherapy department with 8 linear accelerators, 3 equipped with cone beam CT, 1 orthotherapy unit, 1 tomotherapy unit and full service brachytherapy suite. 4D CT simulation, respiratory gated therapy, IMRT and IGRT available

Palliative and supportive care
The palliative care department provides outpatient clinics at the London Regional Cancer Program for consultation and follow-up services, in conjunction with the treating oncologists. Consultative services are also available for the inpatient oncology units and for London Health Sciences Centre in general. Dedicated inpatient palliative care units serve both the centre as well as the community, where liaison services and in-home consultation are provided as well.
