The Heidenheim Clinic was founded in 1874. Since the end of the nineties oncology care has become a major issue following the creation of the Department of Radiotherapy. In 2005 Oncology and Palliative care services were centralized in the Department of Medicine I, the palliative care ward opened in 2007, whilst a palliative care home service has been active since 2002.

Department of Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, Radiotherapy, Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry, Pain treatment.
Palliative and supportive care
As mentioned above the palliative care ward opened in 2007 and the unit is comprised of:
- Director of Oncology and Palliative medicine Dr. Grünewald,
- 2 specialists in Oncology and Palliative Care,
- Nurses trained both in oncology and palliative care,
- Arts therapist,
- Social workers,
- Care-giving Teams.
Out-patient care is managed by the Palliative Care Team as well as a palliative home care service, including emergency pain treatment.
All palliative medicine activities are supported by “Friends of Palliative Medicine”.
