The Klinik Dr. Hancken hospital in Stade, Germany, is a highly-specialised centre for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
The centre includes:

  • departments of radiology, complete imaging technology (NMR, CT, SPECT etc.)
  • departments of non-surgical cancer-treatment (radio-oncology and medical oncology)
  • department of palliative care medicine (incl. Psycho-oncology, pain therapy, etc.).

The centre is divided into a 45-beds-inpatient hospital for cancer-patients and a cooperative community of practice ambulatories for diagnostic and therapeutic outpatient services. Since 1991 the hospital includes a 10-beds palliative care unit.

The department of palliative medicine provides: a continuity of care in inpatient and outpatient service; high specialized physicians for advanced cancer and palliative care; a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, psychologists and volunteers; integration of psychological and familiar aspects in cancer treatment and palliative care; link-ups with home care doctors, home care services, senior-residences and other institutions.

The doctors and nurses are qualified with different special certifications for palliative care, pain and symptom management et al. They can look back to more than sixteen years of experience in oncology and palliative care.
