The Instituto Peruano de Oncología & Radioterapia started its activities in 2004. Since then, its goal has been to become an institution of scientific reference with high standards of treatment in oncology and radiotherapy.
In 2012, the institute became the first private centre to provide Medical Residency teaching in the areas of oncology and radiotherapy, contributing to the training of specialists in Peru.
In the same year, the institute created the non-profit organization: Asociación Peruana Vidas Sin Cáncer, where objectives include contributing towards an adequate quality of life for the patient and their relatives, as well as promoting and preventing cancer in the general population.
The staff of the Instituto Peruano de Oncología & Radioterapia includes: Medical Oncologists, Radiooncologists, Nurses, Neurosurgeons, Technicians, Pharmacists, Nutritionists, Pediatric Oncologists, Paramedics, Pharmacists, Clinical Research Coordinators and Administration staff.
The acquisition of modern technology, the development of new protocols in clinical research and innovation of its services, as well as ongoing training of our professionals in oncology, has led to the institute positioning itself among the best reference centres at national and international levels.
It is the only private centre to provide Medical Residency teaching in the areas of oncology and radiotherapy.

Through the backing of Clínica Ricardo Palma, the centre has acces to Diagnostics Support, ICU, hospitalisation and more than 250 medical specialties.
Palliative and supportive care
Oncologists refer their patients to the palliative medicine service; this information is recorded in the medical chart. The patient should attend the service accompanied by a relative, the oncologist maintains at all times a close communication about the patient's condition with the family, we also provide to the inpatient pain therapy, home care, and these are supplemented by educational activities on topics of interest to the patient and family. Self-help groups and activities such as complementary yoga are also provided.
Close communication and coordination is maintained permanently. Staff determine the specialised treatment of any medical complications, emission of prescription and respective indications according to the patient's requirements by medical specialty and pathology associated with the cancer. Specialised medical examination procedures and specific techniques determine the continuity or modification of the treatment as appropriate.
The evaluation of patients receiving palliative care is conducted by an interdisciplinary team.
