The majority of patients (over 50%) admitted to the PCS are discharged to home, for follow up by their general practitioner, after their complex symptoms are controlled. There are no hospices in the health area of the PCS. Seven physicians and eight nurses, with more than six years of experience in palliative care, constitute the palliative care team (PCT). Every physician can attend patients on hospital wards, palliative unit and hospital emergency.
