History and Profile
TheCancer Centre at Beaumont Hospitalforms part of the largest University Hospital on the north side of Dublin, the Nation's capital city, serving a population of more than a million. It has academic affiliation with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and Dublin City University (DCU), and is the principal university teaching hospital of the RCSI. The Campus is based on more than 53 acres, with more than 700 beds, and over 3000 staff members.
The Cancer Centre at Beaumont Hospital has recently been designated as a supra-regional comprehensive cancer centre by the Department of Health of the Irish Government. Activity at the Cancer Centre represents 22% of all inpatient and day care admissions per annum within the Beaumont Hospital complex. To enhance the experience of patients attending the Cancer Centre a patient-support centre is underway to allow a place of refuge for those waiting for day treatments and for those patients who would benefit from a ‘break’ off the ward during periods of inpatient care.
