Professor Sylvie Rottey MD, PhD
Medical Oncologist and Clinical Pharmacologist

Professor Sylvie Rottey studied medicine at the Ghent University in Belgium. She specialised in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the Ghent University Hospital (under supervision of Professor Simon Van Belle) in 2003. During her training, Prof. Rottey spent 1 year in France, working at the Institut Gustave Roussy (Dr. J. Benard) as well as in Hôpital Université Descartes Paris V, Hôpital Pitié-Salpêtrière (Prof. D. Khayat).
She achieved her PhD and became Doctor in Medical Science in March 2007 with the work: ‘99mTc-HYNIC Annexin-V for monitoring response to chemotherapy: methodology and feasibility studies’ (promoters: Prof. Simon Van Belle and Prof. Christophe Van de Wiele).
In November 2008, Prof. Rottey completed training in Clinical Pharmacology under the supervision of Prof. Luc Van Bortel
She worked as a staff member of the department of Medical Oncology at the Ghent University Hospital since 2003.
In 2009, she initiated the oncology phase I Unit at the Ghent University Hospital and is the coordinating physician of this unit. As a consequence, she is closely involved in the development of new anti-cancer drugs. Her aim, as far as research is concerned, is to look for new active anticancer drugs in solid tumours and to individualise the treatments according to the tumour characteristics.
In addition, Prof. Rottey is active in the field of urogenital cancers and head and neck cancers, and is teaching at the Ghent University.
Prof. Rottey is a member of several societies and is publishing in national and international journals.
