Dr. Ron Epelbaum is a clinical senior lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology, in Haifa. He is a full-time cancer specialist at the Rambam Health Care Campus (RHCC). Dr. Epelbaum obtained his degree as a senior oncologist in 1988 and completed his training as a Research Fellow for one year at Harvard University, in the Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, USA.
Dr. Epelbaum is currently head of the Outpatient Clinic and Day-Care Unit at the RHCC. The activity of his unit includes about 22,000 visits of patients per year at the outpatient clinic of the physicians and the delivery of more than 20,000 chemotherapeutic treatments per year in the day-care facilities. His main research interests are treatment of lymphoma, new drugs, tumour markers and pancreatic cancer. He has been involved in many phase II and III trials exploring new therapies in various solid tumours.
Dr. Epelbaum is a member of the European Society foe Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He was an active member of the Early Clinical Study group (ECSG) of the European Organisation for Research on Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). He took part in phase II and III trials conducted by this group, and chaired some of them. He has contributed to over 75 publications, including publications in the European Journal of Cancer, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Blood, Cancer and Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
