Dr Peeter Karihtala received his medical degree and qualifications in medical oncology and radiotherapy from the University of Oulu, Finland. His Ph.D. thesis on studies of oxidative stress in breast cancer was accepted in 2006. Thereafter he has focused mainly on the role of oxidative damage in the carcinogenesis of breast cancer and gynaecological cancers. Dr Karihtala has contributed to over 30 publications and is supervising several Ph.D. students.
Currently working as a Clinical lecturer in the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy in the University of Oulu, Dr Karihtala’s clinical work as cancer specialist includes tasks in the ward and in the outpatient clinic in Oulu University Hospital.
Dr Karihtala is a member of the Finnish Society of Oncology and European Society of Medical Oncology and he is also on the board of the Finnish Breast Cancer Group.
