ESMO Young Oncologists Moonlight Networking Event at the ESMO 2012 Congress
Getting to know each other is the best first step on the way to making a difference together!
With this clear goal in view, over one hundred young oncologists gathered for this first-ever networking event especially organised for them by the Comprehensive Cancer Centre Vienna (CCC Vienna), the Austrian Society for Haematology and Oncology (OeGHO) and the ESMO Young Oncologists Committee (YOC).
The occasion was the ESMO 2012 Congress and the venue Moto am Fluß on the Donau Canal proved to be the perfect setting for an informal, relaxed and pleasant evening with fantastic opportunities to meet with friends and colleagues from all over the world. 26 countries were represented – the majority of attendees were from Europe with a good turnout from Austrian young oncologists, however we also met delegates from Brazil, Egypt, India, USA, Australia, Canada, and Japan.
Local hosts, YOC member Matthias Preusser and Catharina Dressler, from the CCC Vienna, welcomed the guests and were very pleased with the evening. ”It was a felicitous evening, amusing, delicious and loquacious” said Catharina Dressler.
CCC Professor Christoph Zelinski made a special appearance to congratulate the initiative and stressed the important role of YOs in the international oncology community, as he said: “You are the future of oncology and of ESMO”
The YOC would like to thank the CCC Vienna and the OeGHO for the excellent collaboration in setting up this evening, for which we have received very enthusiastic feedback:
“It was great to make contacts on an informal level and receive tutoring from “older” YOs”
Anna Sophie Berghoff, CCC Vienna, Austria
“Last night was perfect. I met a lot of people, exchanged contact information and started some important friendships”
Mila Petrova, Military Medical Academy, Bulgaria
A big thank you from all the organisers to everyone who came along and participated in making the evening so special. We very much hope to be able to organise this type of event again in the future!
