The Executive Board is the executive body of ESMO

Activities and responsibilities

The Executive Board is the executive body of the Society. The task of the Executive Board is to apply and execute the decisions of the General Assembly and to work with the Chief Executive Officer on day to day matters. The Executive Board designates which of its members shall officially represent the Society, as well as the signatory powers.

Structure

The Executive Board is composed of up to twelve (12) members. Upon ratification of the election by the General Assembly pursuant to Article 6(b) of these Bylaws, members of the Executive Board are:

  • the President,
  • the President-Elect

By right of their position, further members of the Executive Board are:

  • the Treasurer
  • the Chairperson of the Education Committee
  • the Chairperson of the National Representatives and Membership Committee
  • the Chairperson of the Public Policy and European Affairs Committee
  • the Chairperson of the Guidelines Committee
  • the Chairperson of the Press and Media Affairs Committee
  • The Executive Board may appoint by co-option up to four other members

Martine J. Piccart, MD, PhD, is Professor of Oncology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Director of Medicine at the Jules Bordet Institute, in Brussels, Belgium.  Earning her medical degrees at the ULB and oncology qualifications in New York and London, she is also member of the Belgian Royal Academy of Medicine. Dr. Piccart is active in numerous professional organisations. Since January 2012, she is President of the ESMO.
